How a Norwegian comment section turned chaos into order—with a quiz

This is such a tempting idea.. but imagine what it would do to the informed opinion around these parts..  This would almost become a dead zone..  (But do I ever love this idea )

AUSTIN, Texas—The five-person team behind a simple WordPress plugin, which took three hours to code, never expected to receive worldwide attention as a result. But NRKbeta, the tech-testing group at Norway's largest national media organization, tapped into a meaty vein with the unveiling of last February's Know2Comment, an open source plugin that can attach to any WordPress site's comment section.

"It was a basic idea," NRKbeta developer Ståle Grut told a South By Southwest crowd on Tuesday. "Readers had to prove they read a story before they were able to comment on it."The tech section of its site, NRKBeta, is trying a simple experiment. You can't leave a comment unless you've read the story. How will they know? There's a test!"

If you spend 15 seconds on it, those are maybe 15 seconds that take the edge off the rant mode when people are commenting," suggested the site's editor, Marius Arneson, in Nieman Lab's interview. It's only being trialled on a small number of stories at the moment - typically tech stories that have broken out into the main news agenda. The quizzes are written by the reporters, and the questions aren't too taxing, just enough to show you've at least glanced at the text before rushing to the bottom."

We thought we should do our part to try and make sure that people are on the same page before they comment," said Stale Grut, one of the site's journalists."If everyone can agree that this is what the article says, then they have a much better basis for commenting on it."

CBC will implement this, but only after you'd handed over your home address and social security number.

Don't worry - they already have it. Aside from this, radio would benefit from some form of imbecile filtering. It would end most talk radio, but may well be worth the sudden change.

And CTV would only let you comment if you were a cable or satellite subscriber.

I have absolutely no issue with that. 🗳
