Toronto Star Leaves Out 30 Layoffs, As "Star Touch" Torched

After insisting for about two years that its "Star Touch" app was a big hit, The Toronto Star has finally given up the ghost and has officially killed the feature, effective July 31st. The paper spent at least $23 million on the thing, which was highly praised but not highly used.

What I find interesting is that on the Star's online front page, there is an note from its publisher, outlining what will replace the app starting August 1st. But after detailing all the layoffs at Sears, HBC and more in recent days in front page headlines, the piece never mentions that the Star also axed 30 people involved with its "Touch" program.

I wonder why the "people's paper" left that salient point out of their article.

Well DUH! Their first mistake was to dictate that you had to have an Apple tablet only.
They later added android, but too little too late.
