Re: Peter Shurman on 640

He was a PC representative in the Thornhill riding, an if I'm not mistaken was an important figure at CJEZ in the 90s (have to fact check that one)

Cheers,
Jody Thornton

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I believe this is a one-off appearance. Shurman hosted a show on CFRB for a few years, before leaving to make a successful run for the Ontario PCs. Because of their usual lack of personnel, which shows up every time anyone needs a vacation or a day off, AM640 has been holding over hosts for an extra hour (or two, in some cases) all week, to make up for Oakley's absence in the afternoon.

They appear to be too penurious to actually have part-timers around for emergencies. Shurman seems to be the rare exception this time. Still, they've been doing it for a long while, much to the consternation of many here who think they're totally understaffed and won't do anything about it. RB has a whole cadre of fill-in hosts (such as Tony Chapman, who has been sitting in for Jerry Agar the last two days)  which leaves them a lot less vulnerable to sudden or even scheduled absences.

I can't understand Corus leaving their ranks so thin. What would they do if say, two people were off at the same time, one on holiday and another sick? Oh wait, I know - a fifth rerun of Coast To Coast can roll at noon. What a way to run a talk radio format!

I guess Desmond Cole was unavailable.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

Peter Shurman ran Standard broadcasting for many years during the Conrad Black years and the early Allan Slaight years.  Besides being the PC MPP for Thornhill.

Any station that Peter is on is better for it (even for just one program).  He's a tremendous broadcaster and a very smart man.  I'll be listening.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I dunno Doug.  Can you ever really trust OR count on a politician?

By and large... ... ...No.

The less 'Cyber Space' knows about me the better.  As a result I do not use my real name.  I would be willing to use yours' though.  No?  OK then.  So you 'get' it.  We're good.

OK...OK...  Peter is the exception.  For the RULE to be the RULE...there HAS to be the exception to the RULE.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

Peter has a huge background in radio, both here in Toronto and Montreal at CJAD...

Don't let the former politician thing scare you...

I'd like to see more from Corus...and 640 Toronto...

I guess you could toss Spaceman in to fill in, but frig he'd scare the kids with all of the talk of Illuminati and conspiracies...

Yes...George Noory, make some space...for the Spaceman, Gary Bell!

The world would be so good if it weren't for some people...

I had the pleasure of meeting Gary Bell a few years ago.  He's a cool cat.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I caught the first hour of his show this afternoon.  Oh yeah, he's still got it.

With vacation season coming, I'd love to hear him do more.  He could probably do it from home to avoid the commute from NOTL.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

All this Peter Shurman talk got me to thinkin'....

I believe that long long ago..... in a place far far away I had heard that Mr. Shurman was a practitioner of the martial arts...

Can anyone confirm that??

Anyone??

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I can confirm.  Early in my radio career, I had to steal a pebble from his hand.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I believe Corus might offer him a $20,719 housing allowance, but I'll bet he gets it in writing this time.

If you mean that stupid fake article, then no, he wasn't.  Otherwise, try to be a bit more vague.

Re: Peter Shurman on 640

I wonder if he would invite Mr. Tim Hudak to appear on his program??

I wonder if he would give Mr. Hudak a  big karate chop and exclaim HI as he made contact??

Not that he'd want it, but offer Shurman the morning show.  Please!

So another activist broadcaster, then.

Ah! Interesting. Was he responsible for the 'Only air the news that won't offend Jennifer' policy I had heard about at the time from disgusted employees?
